Security!
It is amazing the number and types of security systems that are at work today. There is the security system that blocks unwanted email messages or what we call “junk” mail to our computers. There is the keyless entry that even allows a person to start their vehicle without ever leaving their homes. There are many types of security systems in homes and businesses that automatically send an alarm to a central place in a smoke detector or one of the warning devices goes off. There is even the detection devices located at airports where individuals even have to take off their shoes and send them through a scanning machine. There indeed are all kinds of security!
Needless to say with every new device that promotes better security there seems to be some who is trying to “hack” into that system and to steal valuable information. People are afraid today of identity theft where valuable information like a social security number can be stolen! Being scared, not secure, is the sad situation of our sinful society. Years ago there is a story of a little boy who had been given a part in a church’s Easter play. His line was “It is I, be not afraid”. In spite of his practicing, on the night of the Easter play and amidst a churning stomach the little boy blurted out when it was his time to say his line “It’s me and I’m scared to death!”
No matter what a person’s occupation or status in life there is always the possibility of fear of some kind – the fear of not being secure enough! Even when the outside of people seems to appear calm and fearless, the inside many times can be like the little boy – “It’s me and I’m scared to death!”
One is reminded in the Bible that our loving Savior tells us in very powerful and secure words “I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand”.
In the midst of more and more security measures to protect a person from the outside forces, still man continues to seek out the one thing that will give his mind and soul rest and peace. That special message is found securely in Jesus Christ, the true Son of God and our Lord and Savior.
Yes Jesus can give security to the person who has lost a spouse! Yes Jesus can give security to a person who has lost their job and wonders what is around the corner! Yes Jesus can give security to parents who wonder how their child who is struggling for identity right now will find their special place in life! In these and so many more situations in life Jesus is our Hope, our true Security!
Why not take the time to ask Jesus to bring to you that security that no one else can give. Why not ask the Savior to lead you to quiet waters and to restore your mind and soul. Why not do that today?
Trinity congregation continues to proclaim this Savior, Jesus Christ, as our Security for today and for eternity.
