“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6: 5-9)
What is the first thing
you want to do when you’ve just seen a great movie, received good news, or had
a wonderful day? We want to tell someone
about it. We want to share with another person a story about what made us laugh
or cry. We want someone else to share in
that excitement with us.
As Christians, the Bible
gives us the most remarkable account of the promises and gifts our Lord has
given us. We rejoice in knowing God and
the excitement of one day being with him in Heaven.
Yet, how often do we run
to someone to share our excitement and joy in the Lord? We know the Holy Spirit is always working
within us, yet many times we suppress ourselves from sharing God with someone
else.
We have the need to share
our most precious moments in life with those around us. Why not share why our life is so precious?
Questions:
1.
Is there someone in your life you could witness to?
2.
What has hindered you from taking that role?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Help me to be a
witness to those around me. Let the message that I share with others bring joy
and salvation. Allow me to continue to
serve You through both word and action. Amen.

Sharing the Faith
When I was little I was always told to clean my room because I had toys everywhere. As you may or may not know little kids absolutely hate to clean. I always did it, but I always had a bad attitude about it. Now of course, I was not at all interested in any thing my parents were telling me about my room. However, one thing that I liked to be told about was Jesus and all of His great miracles. It was altogether different when I was being told all about God and how much he loved me.
I have four little sisters and three little brothers. I share a room with two sisters that are six
and four. They are not old enough to
really clean, but they are old enough to help. They never want to hear me say
“help me clean our room.” They always
find some kind of excuse to get out of it, but they do always love to hear
about God and what Jesus did for us on the cross. Even if they still don’t like to clean our
room, (not that I do either) I am glad that they like to listen to the stories
of God and everything He has done for us. Teaching my little brothers and
sisters is my way of witnessing, and I hope that they do the same when they are
older. I could not do this without
God. He gives me strength to witness to
others whether they are little kids or grown adults. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me” (Matthew
Questions:
1. Have you ever had the opportunity to share God’s word with others, but were too scared?
2. How can you work on not being so afraid of witnessing?
3. Has anyone ever witnessed to you? If so, how did they approach the subject?
4. Will you accept the challenge of witnessing no matter who it is?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for giving me opportunities to witness and to share Your love and kindness. Please help me to keep telling the little children about Your love so that someday they can witness to others, too. I also ask that You not only help me witness to children, but to everyone, for You love them all. In Your precious name I pray, Amen.

Be Brave about Your Faith
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in
heaven and earth has been given to Me. Therefore go
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew
28:18-20)
While over visiting part of
the family, my cousin and I got into a church related conversation. I knew that she had grown up without going to
church except for an occasional trip while visiting our Grandparents. I asked if they were going to try to find a
church to go to, but inside me I knew the answer would be “no.” The conversation grew in intensity and
emotion. She confided in me that she was
afraid to die, because she knew that if she didn’t love and accept Jesus she
would not be going to Heaven. I was sure
to tell her that being a Christian was a gift given to her by God. There was nothing that she could do that would
make her deserve it.
Having grown up in the church
loving and praising God, I had never thought of anyone being afraid of
dying. I made it my point to help
her. I bought her a Bible, and wrote her
a long letter on different things I thought important for a growing faith. I was sure to point out the rules that God
had given us. The Ten Commandments and
the Lord’s Prayer were very important to know.
I was very happy to find out over Christmas that she had been reading
her Bible devotedly.
We all have the opportunity
at some point in our life to witness or tell someone else about our Lord and
His only Son. What a wonderful message
that God’s grace gave us the gift of eternal life through Jesus’ suffering
death and resurrection. This is what
gives us confidence and takes away our fear of death. Jesus wants us to let Him carry our cares and
fears. Don’t ever be shy about sharing
your faith with other people. You never
know what Jesus might be able to do through you.
Questions:
1.
Where have I
missed an opportunity to witness?
2.
How can I improve
my ability to witness?
3.
Would God be
proud of me when I “miss the mark?” Why?
4.
What good news
does the gospel give us to witness?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Please give us
strength to spread Your love. Let us be bold about what we believe, and use
that for letting Your light shine. Forgive us for not taking the opportunities
that we should to extend Your love to others. Bless us in everything we do, Lord. Amen

Telling Jesus You Love Him
“Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teachings. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.’” (John 14:23)
Have you ever told someone you love him or her? Did they tell you that they loved you back? Telling someone you love them shows a person that you really care for them and reminds them that you love them. That is why we should not only tell Jesus we love Him, but we should praise Him as well. The more we love and praise Him, the closer we get to Him. Jesus has already told us that He loves us, forgives us, and cares for us. Our response back should be to love Him and others. One way to show Jesus you love Him is to follow His commands and tell people about Jesus. Showing people that you love Jesus and that you love them makes it easier to give your Christian witness. What I mean is that just by showing this love we are already giving a witness. That makes it easier because people might want to know what makes you show love toward them. Hopefully this will open the door to more witnessing opportunities.
Questions
1. Do you say, “I love you” to everyone you meet?
2. Do you like everyone you meet? Ask God for help in witnessing to everyone not just the people you like.
3. How do you tell people about Jesus?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Please help us to show people we love them. Thank You for dying on the cross. Please forgive us of our sins. We love You. Amen

(To
Establish Lives in the Lord)
“Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what He has done for me.” (Psalm 66:16)
“Go tell it on the mountain over the hills and everywhere.” You know how the song goes, but these words are really important when it comes to witnessing. There are people in our lives and throughout the world who have never heard the Word of God. We should tell how Jesus died on the cross to save us. His love was and is so great. Only by His grace can we be saved and have eternal life.
While at a soccer tournament, four of my friends and I were getting ready for our next big soccer game. During our conversation, we started to talk about God and about what we believed in. I was surprised to hear one of my friends say, “I don’t believe in anything.” My other friend is a very strong Christian and has been on several mission trips, so he and I sat down to tell him about God. This may be the only time this person hears the Word of God. When we are witnessing we must center everything around Jesus. There is so much to tell about Jesus and what He did for us. The Holy Spirit will give us the words.
What would you do in a situation like this? Sometimes it’s hard witnessing to our friends, because we are afraid that we will be ridiculed. We can do our best to tell others about God, but in a situation like this we have to turn to God for help. He will give us the things to say and His Spirit will work in the hearts of our friends.
Questions:
1. Have you ever witnessed to another person? Tell about your experience.
2. Have you ever had the opportunity to witness, but didn’t because you were afraid? Tell what you should have done.
3. Are you ever afraid of telling about Christ to others? Where should you go for help?
Prayer:
Dear Lord, help us to learn to witness to others. Give us the strength to not pass up a chance to witness to a person who doesn’t know You. Help us not to just tell Your Word, but show it, too. In all these things we thank, praise, serve and obey You. Amen.

When I was little, I belonged to a church camp called Slippery Rock Baptist camp. I became friends with a girl named Holly. After getting to know her, I realized that she was not a Christian. I knew I should talk to her about God. At first, I didn’t want to, because I was afraid. God helped me through it. I told her that God is a loving caring God and that He loved not only me, but her, too. Before long, we were talking about the Bible. By the time the week was over I had a new friend in Christ. Isn’t it amazing what the Holy Spirit can do?
Questions:
1. Have you ever told anyone about God?
2. How did they react?
3. Have you ever held back from witnessing?
4. How do you think Jesus can use you to encourage others to believe?
Prayer:
Dear God, Thank You for giving me the ability to witness Your Word. Whenever I witness to other people I have a sense of relief. I know that You want me to witness to as many people as possible. I will continue to praise You and preach your gospel. Thank You. You are an awesome God and I will always love You. Amen.

Spread the Word
“Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
It’s really amazing what you can spread just by word of mouth. A lot of businesses depend on word of mouth to bring in customers. The power of people telling other people is used by everyone from restaurants to rock bands. For example, one of my favorite Christian rock bands gained multitudes of fans just from people spreading the word about them. Some of the best restaurants in the world don’t advertise because there’s no need. Their customers like the food so much that they tell everyone they know.
In the same way, we should tell others about God. We should tell them not so much because it’s what we’re supposed to do, but because we love God and we want others to know about Him. It’s the same thing as restaurant customers telling their friends about the food. We love Jesus so much that we want everyone else to know about Him. When we tell other people about Jesus and how He died on the cross to save us, it shouldn’t be because we feel like we have to or because it’s the right thing to do. It should come naturally out of our love for Jesus and caring for each other.
So, we want to witness to others, but why don’t we? There are quite a few reasons why we don’t tell others about God. A few of the reasons that we might be reluctant to witness are because we feel like we don’t know how; we fear rejection; or we are just plain too lazy. There are various programs in our own church that encourage us to witness to others. An important thing to remember is that sometimes we will be rejected. We have to trust that God will work in the hearts of His people. We simply need to share His Word and trust the Holy Spirit will guide us in what to say. God will give us the strength and confidence we need to tell others about Him.
Questions:
1. What are some ways that we can witness to others outside of the church?
2. Why do you think that we have so much trouble witnessing to others?
3. Have you ever passed up a chance to witness when you could have?
4. Are there bad ways to witness? If there are, what are they?
Prayer
Dear Lord,
We know that we need to witness to others about You. We are sorry for not making the effort to tell others, or for passing up chances to witness when we could have. We ask for Your help and guidance in telling others about You. We know that You have the power and You will help us. Thank You for everything You do for us. Amen
